QR codes are the quickest way to share something physical-to-digital: a café’s WiFi, a shop’s WhatsApp number, a menu or a payment page. Here is how to create the two most useful kinds.
WiFi QR code: guests connect without typing a password
- Open the QR Code Generator and choose the WiFi tab.
- Enter your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on phones — it is case-sensitive.
- Enter the password and choose the security type (almost always WPA, which also covers WPA2 and WPA3).
- Download the PNG and print it.
Android phones and iPhones (iOS 11 and later) can scan it with the normal camera and join the network with one tap. The password is stored inside the code, so only display it where you are happy for people to connect.
WhatsApp QR code: open a chat with your business
- Choose the WhatsApp tab.
- Enter the number in international format without “+” or leading zeros — for Pakistan,
923001234567rather than0300-1234567. - Optionally add a pre-filled message such as “Hi, I want to order…”. Customers can edit it before sending.
- Download and add it to flyers, packaging, your shop counter or social posts.
Printing tips so it always scans
- Size: at least 2 × 2 cm for business cards and 10 × 10 cm for posters or table stands.
- Contrast: a dark code on a light background. Avoid light-on-dark and low-contrast brand colours.
- Quiet zone: leave white space around the code; the download already includes a margin.
- Test before printing in bulk: scan it with two different phones, including an older one.
- Add a label: “Scan for WiFi” or “Chat on WhatsApp” tells people what will happen.
Other useful QR codes
The same generator makes codes for a website link (menus, Google review pages, portfolios), plain text, an email or a phone number. If you change your WiFi password, remember to print a new code.
