How to Merge PDF Files on Your Phone or PC for Free
Job applications, visa files, scholarship forms and office reports often ask for one PDF, while your documents are scattered across several files: a CV, a cover letter, a degree, an experience letter. Merging them takes less than a minute once you know how.
Merge PDFs in your browser (any device)
- Open the Merge PDF tool on your phone or computer.
- Tap the box and select all the PDFs you want to combine. You can add more files at any time.
- Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to put them in the right order. The list order becomes the page order.
- Press Merge & download. You get a single PDF containing every page.
The files are combined inside your browser, so sensitive documents such as ID cards, bank statements or medical reports are never uploaded to a server.
On Android
Files you downloaded from WhatsApp or email are usually in the Downloads folder. When the file picker opens, long-press the first PDF and then tap the others to select several at once. After merging, the new PDF is saved to Downloads as merged.pdf.
On iPhone and iPad
In Safari, the picker shows the Files app. Choose Browse, open the folder with your PDFs and tap Select to choose several. After you press merge, Safari offers to open or save the file; choose Save to Files.
On Windows and Mac
You can drag files from File Explorer or Finder straight onto the drop box. Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) to select several files in the picker.
Recommended order for an application file
- Cover letter
- CV / résumé
- Highest degree, then earlier certificates
- Experience letters, newest first
- ID documents
After merging
- Too large to upload? Run the merged file through Compress PDF. Scanned pages often shrink by 50–80%.
- Want page numbers? Add them with Add Page Numbers so reviewers can refer to “page 7”.
- Pages sideways? Fix them with Rotate PDF before sending.
Troubleshooting
- A file won’t open: it may be password-protected. Ask the sender for an unlocked copy.
- Photos instead of PDFs: convert them first with Image to PDF, then merge.
